Now this is interesting.....

trea·son.
1. Violation of allegiance toward one's country or sovereign (1) , especially the betrayal of one's country by waging war against it or by consciously and purposely acting to aid its enemies.
2. A betrayal of trust or confidence.
(1) sov·er·eignn.1. One that exercises supreme, permanent authority, especially in a nation or other governmental unit, as:
A king, queen, or other noble person who serves as chief of state; a ruler or monarch.
A national governing council or committee.
.
Okay, where to begin...Well, first of all, the United States of America is a CONSTITUTIONAL REPUBLIC. With the People being The Natural Guardians of the CONSTITUTION. The different various branches of the government are to be controlled, in their actions, by the bounds set forth in the CONSTITUTION. Hence that would make the CONSTITUTION the sovereign.
.
This would make ALL government employees, in actuality, PUBLIC SERVANTS of The People. Suppose the PUBLIC SERVANTS, by perverse judicial, legislative or executive maneuveringings, effect change of the original intention contained in the Articles of the CONSTITUTION. Or, those not mentioned in the CONSTITUTION, because they were ASSUMED to be NATURAL, GOD-GIVEN RIGHTS. Would such VIOLATION not be considered as Treason? Not to mention that the intent of the Framers of the CONSTITUTION was that The People be ARMED to be able to deal effectively with enemies, either FOREIGN or DOMESTIC. So, DISARMING The People can be construed as aiding an enemy.
.
Now, let's see, what was the penalty for Treason? I know that in the past it used to be....
.
