"gun ownership in America is at an all-time high..."

The link in the headline will take you to an article titled "Police say arm your home, don't arm yourself". The article points out that "The National Rifle Association reports that 50 percent of homes now have guns and that gun ownership in America is at an all-time high." And then of course there is the all to familiar cry "With those numbers come some startling statistics." And then they cite one of the most flawed 'Gun Control' reports ever perpetrated, the New England Journal of Medicine '1993; 329: 1084-1091. Kellermann, AL, Rivara FP, Somes G, et al. "Suicide in the home in relationship to gun ownership."
.
The NEJM article was debunked by Dr. Edgar Suter and others years ago. Yet it keeps surfacing over and over as a source of 'proof' that guns, in the hands of individual peaceful citizens, are bad.
.
To be fair, the article doesn't advocate for outright disarmament, and is seems geared more towards safe use and common sense home safety measures. However, it does bring up using gun locks which clearly hinder a gun owner in being able to defend life and property. As well as portraying that the only time a citizen should have arms is in the home. Which is in direct confliction with the intent of the Second Amendment. This is proven as fact by a number of statements from our Founders:
.
"[T]he people are not to be disarmed of their weapons. They are left in full possession of them." - Zacharia Johnson
.
"Resistance to sudden violence, for the preservation not only of my person, my limbs, and life, but of my property, is an indisputable right of nature which I have never surrendered to the public by the compact of society, and which perhaps, I could not surrender if I would." - John Adams, Boston Gazette, Sept. 5, 1763,reprinted in 3 The Works of John Adams 438 (Charles F. Adams ed., 1851).
.
"The rights of conscience, of bearing arms, of changing the government, are declared to be inherent in the people." - Fisher Ames, Letter to F.R. Minoe, June 12, 1789
.
"The defense of one's self, justly called the primary law of nature, is not, nor can it be abrogated by any regulation of municipal law." - James Wilson, The Works of James Wilson, 1896
.
"The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed, and this without any qualification as to their condition or degree..." - St. George Tucker, Blackstone's Commentaries
.
"The Constitution shall never be construed to prevent the people of the United States, who are peaceable citizens from keeping their own arms..." - Samuel Adams
.
The list of quotes from the Founders could go on and on. (Have several pages of them on the website GunShowOnTheNet.com, by the way).
.
The thought that struck me while reading the article. Was that 'Gun Control' has actually caused more people to own guns. And the shrill cries for further infringements is working against those crying the loudest. And that is how it should be. For what these people are really trying to do is to undermine the whole basis for Freedom and Liberty. As well as the means of keeping tyranny in check.
.
The answer to violence is not, nor can it be, found in removal of a God-given and Constitutionally protected Right. Rather, the true answer is found in education of proper use of arms and enlightening the people as to their duty as citizens.
