"the knowledge of the proper use of firearms in this country is sadly neglected"

"But you know, my son, the knowledge of the proper use of firearms in this country is sadly neglected. The art of handling and discharging firearms ought to be taught in the public schools like they teach the A.B.C. Every boy and girl ought to know the art. It is a great and noble art, suh. If it were taught to our boys, our army would be made up of men who would kill when they shot. If it were taught to our girls they could defend themselves when their men were away and society would be purified and made healthier and better."--Col. Jack Chinn, in an interview with a New York Sun reporter in an article titled "Col. "Jack" at Saratoga." [Semi-Weekly Interior Journal, Stanford, KY. Tuesday, August 19, 1902. Vol. XXX. No. 47 Pg. 4]
