"Resolved that we call the attention of the country to the fact that in said platform of 1856 the republicans of that time took the position with regard to the territory of Kansas that the constitution followed the flag in the use of these words; "The dearest constitutional rights of the people in Kansas have been fraudulently and violently taken from them. Their territory has been invaded by an armed force; spurious and pretended legislative, judicial and executive officers have been set over them, whose usurped authority sustained by the military power of the government, tyrannical and unconstitutional laws have been enacted and enforced; the right of the people to keep and bear arms has been infringed, etc. and that said language is appropriate to present conditions, with reference to the Porto Rican and Philippine islands.
