"It is well for all boys to learn the proper use of firearms"

   The life of another boy has been sacrificed to carelessness in the handling of firearms, and the number of deaths over the country this year resulting from carelessness is appalling. It is well for all boys to learn the proper use of firearms, but the first lesson to be taught them is that of extreme care in their handling. Then again, a law against the possession of guns by very small boys would be of infinitely more benefit to the country than many laws that are now on the statute books. Human life is a thing not to be recalled when taken away, and all care in it's protection must be taken.

   In my honest opinion, the above was the proper way for a news reporter to respond to the misuse of firearms. It was an appropriate and reasoned response to a horrible situation. Although, I would have rephrased the part about the law against possession of arms by very small boys. And this by adding; without direct supervision by an adult.

An ordinance relating to the public safety.

   Be it ordained by the town council of the incorporated town of Vinita:

   Section 1. That it shall be a misdemeanor to do or permit any of the following acts or things, and any person convicted thereof shall be fined not more than twenty-five dollars....

...Sec. 3. For any person to fire or discharge any cannon, gun, fowling piece, pistol or other firearms of any description; or fire or explode any squibs, crackers, or other things containing powder or other combustible or explosive material in the limits of the town without permission from the mayor, which permission, when so given, shall limit the time of such firing, and shall be subject to be revoked at any time by the mayor. Provided that it shall not be a violation of this ordinance to sound an alarm of fire by the discharge of firearms....

Every bitch running at large during her period of salacity shall be killed; and the city marshal or his deputies or any other person may slay the same, and the prudent use of firearms for that purpose shall not be deemed a violation of any law of the territory relating to corporations or of any ordinance of the incorporated town of Vinita.

Sec. 5. That this ordinance shall be in force and effect from and after 30 days after its publication.

THE GUN TOTER

Major Raymond W. Pullman, Superintendent of Police, makes a highly sane and timely recommendation concerning restrictions on the carrying of firearms in the District.

   He suggests that application must be made for permits to carry firearms, that a period elapse before acting on such applications, so that the character of the applicants may, be investigated, and that recent pictures and records of persons carrying firearms be kept on file.

   There would be no hardship in all this to those having a legitimate reason for having revolvers. On the whole there is no reason why the average citizen should be in possession of weapons when he is helping pay a police force to carry them for him.

   This country is so new and the traditions of the gun-toting frontiersman remain with us. When we establish a police force like that in Washington the District resident no longer, as a rule, need trouble about firearms. For the most part the only result of the promiscuous ownership of weapons will be accident and crime. Even should the owner of the weapon be law-abiding he' never can be sure into whose hands his weapon may fall.

   Since the wave of shooting has spread over Washington during the last two weeks, numerous charges of threats have been preferred in the Police Court against husbands and sweethearts of frightened women.

   Assistant District Attorney Ralph Given today authorized the issuance of four warrants against men accused by women to have threatened them. Tho warrants will be served today and the men will be brought to the Police Court to answer tomorrow.

   Three threat cases were disposed of In court this morning and in each case the men were requested to give bonds to keep the peace.

   The movement to secure from Congress a law prohibiting the indiscriminate sale of firearms in the District probably will be taken up with renewed vigor at the coming session as a result of the epidemic of murders and suicides here.

Bills Before Congress.

   Since 1908 there. has been a bill in Congress at every session relating to the sale of firearms in the District, but all of them has died peacefully in the committee rooms.

   The latest bill, which would make it unlawful to sell, exchange, or give away any pistol, bowie knife, dirk knife, blackjack, or other weapon was introduced in the House on December 7, 1915, by Congressman Thetus Sims of Tennessee.

   Although the Commissioners were not called upon during the last session to report to the District Committee on this bill, which, they said, they had not studied. They indicated that such a bill would receive their support.

Brownlow for Law.

   "I am in favor of prohibiting absolutely the sale of revolvers and, in addition, I think it should be a felony instead of a misdemeanor to carry such a weapon," said Commissioner Brownlow, who supports the police and fire departments.

   "I think there should be some law to govern the sale of revolvers," said Mr. Newman.

   The present police regulation require that dealers take the names and addresses of persons to whom they sell firearms and report the same to the police. Officials point out, however, that there is nothing to prevent a purchaser from giving a false name and address. thereby nullifying the law.

   Major Pullman already has expressed itself in favor of a stricter law.

   Let's see now, just how long was Washington D.C. the "murder capital" of the United States? And why is it that the areas of the country that have the most rigid 'gun control' laws have the worst crime rates? I'll tell you why. IT'S BECAUSE GUN CONTROL DOES NOT WORK. It is Constitutionally REPUGNANT. And is responsible for far more death and destruction than it was supposedly intended to prevent. The ONLY ones that benefit from 'gun control' are CRIMINALS. Both those that are on the streets, and those within our governments.

THE REGULATION OF GUN-TOTING.

   Cuba is doing one thing that might well be done in this country. That is its regulation of the sale of firearms. There are but four ports in the island at which firearms may be admitted--Havana, Santiago, Mantanzas and Trinidad.

   Moreover, no dealer is allowed to carry in stock more than a hundred guns; if he owns more, he must put the excess in a government storehouse, to be withdrawn by him only when his stock has been depleted. The buyers of guns are registered at the time of purchase and are subject to surveillance at all times, and nobody may buy a gun, if the authorities object.

   Undoubtedly, this is done by the government as self-protection, and the requirements, which are crude and drastic, are subject to abuse. But there can be no doubt that there is a possibility of great good in the regulations. The carrying of firearms is no longer a necessity, and is no doubt an occasion and incentive to crime.

   In Cuba the great need of the people is to get away from the gun habit and to adopt the habit of the plow, the hoe and the pruning knife. The implements of peaceful toil are the ones to which they should accustom themselves and the sooner the better for the Cubans as individuals and as citizens of the young republic. Whether the country be Cuba or the United States, the fewer the gun-toters, the better for all concerned.

   Oh yeah, THAT worked out REAL well, now didn't it? Interesting how that ALL countries that are. Or, a little while later, become totalitarian regimes. ALWAYS at first regulate, and then remove entirely, firearms from the hands of their intended victims. The short-sighted author recognizes "self-protection" for the government. But totally dismisses it when it comes to citizens carrying arms for their protection. He then advances that the same thing be done in the United States! Just take a look at the name of the paper this spew was printed in. That will give you an idea of just who has been deliberately betraying We The People and our Constitution for DECADES. And they are STILL doing it.

   What the author of this drool was actually advocating is treason against We The People and our Constitution. Just as many more like him/her were doing at that time period in our history. And what people like them are doing in the media tripe that is spewed forth currently. These communist/socialist types have been in our country for quite some time now. And anyone that is even half awake has witnessed the damage they've left by their ignorant 'policies'. Just take a look at Detroit if you want one of the most recent examples....
