Judges: "No person can be blamed for going armed in order to protect his life and property."

ST. LOUIS ARMS AGAINST THIEVES.

Judges say the Many Robberies Justify This
Coarse--5,500 weapons Sold In Four Days.

St. Louis. Dec 18.--Judges Stevenson, Peabody, Wood and Withrow to-day declared publicly in a decision:

"Robberies and assaults have come to be of such frequent occurrence that no one is safe. No person can be blamed for going armed in order to protect his life and property."

This language reflects the condition that has prevailed in St. Louis for several weeks. Highway robberies occur dally and nightly in the heart of the city. So general has become the alarm, and so widefelt the sense of insecurity, that a tremendous sale of firearms has been started.

The K.C. Meacham Arms Company alone has sold 4,000 revolvers and 1,300 guns in the past four days. While this firm has been conducting a clearance sale. Its distribution of firearms has been relatively kept pace with by other hardware establishments.
