1-31-1867: “We have the right to bear arms and the right to form military associations to instruct ourselves in the use of them. . . . if Congress is confronted with an armed organization . . . it will desist from its wicked machinations….”

St. Mary’s Gazette, “We have the right to bear arms and the right to form military associations to instruct ourselves in the use of them. . . . “To be ready for battle,” says a quaint writer, “maketh an enemy to consider,” and we cannot doubt, if Congress is confronted with an armed organization, such as we have proposed, and for the purpose we have named, it will desist from its wicked machinations….”, Jan. 31, 1867

   That same sentiment would also rightly apply to executive wicked machinations....
